What is NLP?
Put simply, NLP is about helping people take control of their lives through the way they think, feel and behave. NLP is about putting the power back in the hands of the person to be who they want to be.
It is both a way of thinking about how people do things and a comprehensive way of working with them to create change.
Over the last 30 years, a rich array of tools, techniques and processes have been developed in NLP that harness the unconscious mind to rapidly and powerfully create change in people. It works at all levels such as perception, emotional states, physiology and thinking patterns.
Its success can be seen in its increasing use within business as a key way to achieve better results and improve performance. It’s even frequently a deciding factor as to whether a trainer, coach or consultant secures their corporate contract.
Outside of business, it achieves equally stunning results. It quickly gets rid of phobias and limiting beliefs, eradicates unhelpful memories and sets in place powerful triggers for hugely positive results. In sport or other performance-based activities such as public speaking, acting or singing, it can rapidly enhance performance and allow people to reach optimal levels almost effortlessly.
Ultimately, the basis of NLP is the understanding that almost everything we are confronted by is a problem of the mind not the situation itself.

Is NLP all about quick fixes?
There’s a myth that NLP is all about quick fixes and many of its techniques aim to create rapid change that lasts.
But that’s not the full story. NLP works at an unconscious level to create change that grows from within. Trance work relies on the power of the mind to discover its own right path to wellness, success or whatever outcome is sought.
So NLP is not about quick fixes. It’s about long term empowerment through changing the way we perceive our experiences and how we communicate them to the world around us. The tools and techniques are just the start of the process but the ripples of change will last a long, long time.
How important is hypnosis and trance in NLP?
Hypnosis and trance are critical aspects of NLP and allow the practitioner to work with, and communicate directly with, the client’s unconscious mind. With NLP, we are most often working with the unconscious mind allowing change to grow from within to affect the way people think, feel and behave.
And so the ability to induce trance and to use hypnosis is an important skill that you will learn and practise on our NLP course.
Of course, you WON’T be making people squawk like a bird or dance in the room. The hypnotic state is one in which the client remains relaxed and willing to allow the unconscious to simply communicate and change.
What change can NLP bring about?
Since it deals with all aspects of how someone thinks, feels and behaves, NLP is concerned with all aspects of change and can work across a huge range of issues.
It can work to create compelling goals and inspiration, allowing people to align their actions to values in a way that frees them from self-doubt or questioning. It can clarify outcomes and allow success to be achieved far more easily than otherwise.
But it also works with the more challenging aspects of human behavior and thinking. It can remove long standing behaviours that cause problems, dispel phobias and allow people to let go of feelings which have weighed them down for years.
NLP is a powerful way of working which can create huge change.
